Biography

James Fullarton was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art under David Donaldson, gaining a Diploma in Drawing and Painting in 1969. Since then, he has been painting full-time as a professional artist, living and working in Ayrshire, Scotland.

His subject matter is varied, including landscape, portraiture and still-life, in the mediums of oil, acrylic and water colour. Working en plein air, James uses a broad palette, with strong colour a dominant feature. His broad impressionist technique further explores and expands the possibilities of interpretation in painting.

James is known as one of Scotland’s leading contemporary professional artists, having had numerous solo exhibitions across the UK, throughout his career.

His work is represented in many public, private and corporate collections including Proctor and Gamble, The Bank of Scotland, Guinness Plc, Arnold Clark Organisation and Heriot-Watt University.

He has regularly exhibited with the Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art.
